If you have you a group of people that has interest. If you can organize a location, we gladly look if we can plan a course of iconpaining for you.
In a typical Dutch landscape, close to Schiphol International Airport, Icon painter Geert Hüsstege has set up his studio. It is located in one of the most beautiful old farmhouses in the area. Apart from painting his own Icons here, Geert Hüsstege also uses the new studio for regular expositions, courses in Icon painting, short retreats and lectures. If you are interested in Icons and the world behind it, Hüsstege Icon studio is very much worth a visit or contact.
Geert Hüsstege has been painting Icons for over 15 years now. He learned the craft from a Russian Priest. Experts refer to Icons as ‘windows of eternity’. The process of Icon painting involves different stages, consisting of preparation in prayer, the ‘technical process’ of applying different layers of special pigments, painting the specific images and the ordination of the finished Icon. As one of the few who masters the required techniques, Geert Hüsstege has painted and restored a series of Icons for different Churches and individuals in the Netherlands, Germany, Luxemburg and the United Kingdom.
Hüsstege Icon studio regularly organises exhibitons. The collections exposed consist of rare Icons from the 16th up to and including the 19th century, contemporary Icons and bronze travel Icons that are carried as protection and guidance. Together with other Icon experts from all over the world, these expositions show beautiful Icons that have never been exposed before. The contemporary Icons are from Geert Hüsstege and other famous Icon painters that have contributed to the art of Iconographics in the East and West. The expositions are accompanied by video and slide-presentations.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, Geert Hüsstege had his own Icon painting school and leads 10-day courses, either in 10 consecutive days or spread over a period of 10 weeks. During the course, the participants work according to the Orthodox Iconographic criteria, and after 10 days every participant goes home with his or her own unique Icon. On the last day of the course the ordination of the Icons takes place in the afternoon according to the Byzantine liturgy. Participants and other Icon painters can purchase all the necessary equipment from the studio, from prepared panels to the best painting materials Icons deserve.
